The Director General of the Dr Osahon Enabulele Foundation visited B-Side Radio Tuesday, 7th January. The visit which was supposed to be a routine 40-50mins visit turned out to be an exciting, unforgettable, and pleasant experience of Discovery for both guest and visitors; finally stretching into about two hours.
The General Manager of B -Side Radio, Adesuwa Lato, and staff, were totally excited and agog to be receiving in their studio, the former President of the World Medical Association. It wasn’t every day that a radio station has the privilege of hosting a World Citizen. But,
what they did not bargain into the mix of excitement and expectations, were the disarming humility and unconventional approach to issues of the charismatic Doctor. The genuine and profuse commendation from him certainly got some reactions.
The General Manager was pleased to take the DG round the station’s facility Dr Enabulele, who was very impressed with the total ambience of the work place, the clear motivation to work and obvious, professionalism of staff members, in addition to their healthy looks and smiles, did not fail to profusely point out to them how impressed he was; especially after finding how comprehensive the set up of the broadcast station was.
This would dovetail into what Adesuwa Lato, the GM, would later describe as a “lecture” in the conference room of the station, where Dr Enabulele met with the management staff and the GM to explicate on the Vision and purpose of the Dr Osahon Enabulele Foundation. The former World Medical Association President would use copious examples to illustrate the leadership failure in our country and why and how young citizens, like B -Side Management can and should expand their good work to bring about desired change. He emphasized the need for a psyche re – orientation, the right education and mindset to transform Nigeria together, instead of escaping our realities by running to outside of Nigeria.
Dr Enabulele however lamented Nigerians poor access to health care, using statistics to show how the country is lagging behind in providing quality health care, despite the health act, which he incidentally led the way to enacting as then NMA President.
He also reiterated the need for Nigeria’s government compliance to policies that would give every Nigerian access to Health care as a fundamental right; noting that Nigeria’s multidimensional poverty level has deprived many citizens access and nobody seems to care. He believes that these issues have to be addressed frontally and solutions sought by Nigerians of good will. “This is precisely why the Dr Osahon Enabulele Foundation has decided to take the gauntlet and interrogate these issues in truly sustainable ways.”
Finally, he used the opportunity to invite the station to the January 29th launching/Colloquium event at the Akin Deko main auditorium of the University of Benin
In her response , the GM reiterated the singular honour of having the former WMA President and World citizen in their station. She read out from a speech, where she eulogized the DG’s feat, and acknowledged the Foundation’s noble objectives. Then she said: ” we look forward to exploring the opportunity for collaboration and making a positive difference in our community together…”. She informed the DG that the station will be celebrating two years of existence in February this year. She happily invited the DG. She continued: ” It is our pleasure to inform you that you will be receiving a special recognition award as : ‘The Health Care Professional of the Year’ “! The award was a recognition of the DG’s remarkable contribution to the Health sector. Further, she did not only accept the invitation to cover the Colloquium on the 29th of January, but also, promised to cover other activities building up to that date, once she is made aware of them. After that, photo session was due and, yeah, it speaks for itself.
