INTELLECTUAL FIREWORKS AT  THE EDO CENTRAL SENATORIAL DEBATE CONTEST

The Interschools Debate Competition organized by the Dr. Osahon Enabulele Foundation for secondary schools in the Edo Central Senatorial District as part of its commitment to promoting academic excellence and youth development. The educational initiative provided a platform for students to engage in critical thinking, articulate informed perspectives, and develop strong public speaking skills, and showcased the talents and intellect of students in the district. The competition featured students from secondary schools representing Esan West, Esan Central, Igueben, Esan North-East, Esan South East Local Government Areas, with each debating team demonstrating remarkable confidence, eloquence, and showcasing their analytical abilities and intellectual creativity. The judging panel—comprising educators and communication experts—evaluated participants based on clarity, logical argumentation, evidence-based presentation, and teamwork. At the end of the cagey contest, Annunciation Catholic College, Irrua emerge overall winner with an average of 84.88%. Igueben Grammar School pulled 79.13% to emerge 2nd position while Timzy International Education Centre, Ekpoma clinched 3rd position with 77.25%. Awards and prizes were thereafter presented to students and their teachers.  The event was graced by Hon. Selo Ojeme (Vice Chairman, Esan Central LGA), Dr. Iniaghe Patrick (President, Association of Resident Doctors, ISTH), Hon. Emmanuel Odenore (HOD, Socials, Esan Central). Other schools that participated at the event include Standard Group of School, Irrua, Iruekpen Mixed Secondary School and St. Francis College, Ubiaja. In an address, the Director General, Dr. Osahon Enabulele decried the state of educational incentives that positively impact on secondary education and assured that the Foundation’s educational initiatives will contribute to overall educational advancement. Overall, the Debate Competition for Edo Central Senatorial district was a successful and impactful initiative, aligning with the Foundation’s mission to empower young people and support quality education across Edo State.

SHOW OF WORDS IN THE EDO NORTH SENATORIAL DEBATE CONTEST.

The Dr Osahon Enabulele Foundation, in collaboration with Edo State Government, has concluded the Interschools Debate competition for Edo North Senatorial District. The competition was organized to empower secondary school students through intellectual engagement, promote public speaking, and provide a platform for students to engage each other in intellectual discourse on socio-economic and developmental issues. Participants were drawn from students from various secondary schools in Akoko-Edo, Owan East, Owan West, Estako West, Estako Central and Estako East local Government Areas, which make up the Edo North Senatorial District. The debates centered around national development themes, encouraging critical thinking and civic awareness. It was evaluated by a panel of judges drawn from the academia and civil society and attended by students, teachers, partners and other stakeholders. After an enthralling contest on the topic “Social media has a detrimental effect on the intellectual capacity and mental health of teenagers, Fugar Mixed Secondary school clinched 1st position, while Uzebba Grammar school and Holy Trinity Grammar School emerged 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.  Among dignitaries at the event were Dr. Osahon Enabulele, Prof. Victor Adetimirin (Vice Chancellor, Edo University, Iyamho), .Haija Aperua Yusuf, Liaison Officer on Health, who represented the Otaru of Auchi. The competition which fostered confidence and leadership skills among Edo North students, has strengthened collaboration between schools, government, and the Dr. Osahon Enabulele Foundation. It has emphasized the importance of education as a tool for empowerment, countering negative narratives in contemporary society. Awards were presented to deserving winners.
